Doors not locking?

Got rust? Seats, panels, doors, windows, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Body & Interior' category are here.

Doors not locking?

Post by Spod »

Hey,

I was wondering, is it a common problem for Patrol doors to not lock? I figure that you're ment to push the handle forward to lock it, but neither of my doors hold, and the key in the drivers door locks it, but again won't hold it locked. Before I open the door up, I thought i'd ask if anyone knows what i'd be looking for to fix it?

Thanks

You are using the correct method for locking both doors, don't know why they aren't actually locking. Maybe the linkage needs some lubrication.

Lubricated linkages, but it seems like a different problem

The locking mechanism in the door seems jammed somehow and as I won't get a chance to take the assembly out for a week or so, this is the best look I can get at it.
A is a small spring that seems like it's possibly dislodged? Is this the correct positioning for it?
B is the lever that the door handle pushes on to activate the lock, which seems kind of stuck. It only goes forward a small amount.
C is the tab that is pushed by the door handle that pushes on lever B.

Can tell anything from this photo? Thought it was worth a shot.

Thanks.

I think you're right about 'A' being a spring in the wrong place. That could be jamming up the whole locking mechanism.

Who ever locks their Patrol anyway? Most of us don't have the original door key to lock them with. :D I always just hope that it's so ugly no one will bother with it.

Haha, that's my theory too, but it's going to be a daily driver till I get a work car mid year so i'll need some kind of security.

I wonder if you could post this as a regular picture. I can't seem to see the Dropbox file. I could really use some help with this as well. I've been experimenting with the doors tonight for the first time. I have the same issue. Any fixes?

It seems that the picture is no longer available in the users Dropbox. This is why it's better to use the Gallery or to directly attach pictures, the. They are there for future reference always.
