Here's an original headliner from a 68 - I am told 69 was this way as well.RiverPatrol wrote:The headliner is the perforated, foam backed vinyl. Not sure why is looks like hardboard in the pics. The only hardboard are the trim panels.

Very nice picture. Yes, the texture on the vinyl changed in '68. Is is still perforated, foam backed vinyl though. I can see why you thought it was hardboard, it does look like a wood grain.
The perforations are a little more obvious here:

Can you clarify on the perforations Leslie. I do not see any in the headliner from 68-69. In my 68 the headliner has no holes, it is that textured solid white vinyl.

No, I sold that Patrol. All I have are the pics and memory. As I recall, the perforations were more obvious on this one because it seemed that the roof had been damp inside before. The roof rusting made the perforations show up more.

So the tiny specs I see in your picture are the perforations you are referring to? My 68 is the first truck I have had of that vintage, ie 68-69.

Yes. They are very random, and much smaller than the perforations in the earlier headliners.

You are right. I went out and looked at my 68. The holes are super small, like needle holes. Never noticed them before.

Probably a moot point since I assume this material is "unobtanium"

Somewhat regretfully, I'm planning to part with my 1969 Patrol soon but not before I got a new headliner installed. I think it turned out very nice! This is sweet little truck, I will miss her and if she does not get sold, I won't be a bit disappointed.
I'll just find more space to store all the toys.
