Really old stuff that got saved. Here are the old Nissan Patrol Club America messages from the 'General' category. Warning, it's dusty in here!

Even with a brand-new battery, my engine does not turn over very quickly. It has been recently rebuilt with only a few hours running so I realize it might be tighter than some but I have nothing to judge it with as there are no Patrols near me. Does this engine turn over noticeably slower than similar North American straight six engines? Thanks.

did you get the head rebuilt?? i got my head done and they added some washers under the springs to give extra valve spring pressure .in the end it made the pushrods bind and that added tension made it really hard to crank over .i ended taking the washers out to stop the binding . i got some of my engine parts at advance fork lifts in vancouver  and gorge auto did my head in victoria tomPost your free ad now! my patrol cranks over slower on colder mornings but i use straight 40 wt. oil not 10-40 and i am sure it has something to do with it. i also run a dual battery system because i have a 12,500 warn winch and lots of kc lights. so during cold starts i switch on the second battery it helps greatly. you need to remember if you are using the battery box under the front seat that aint much of a battery because of it's size for one and the cables run a long way to the starter i think my little battery is only a 450 or 500 amp battery where as the one i put under the hood is a 1000 amps. i ran bigger cables and make sure all connections are clean. if that don't get her i would consider a rewind on the starter. mark.;

Hoss I like the idea of a two battery system in our older climates. How does that work? Are they in parallel with the alternator charging both through the VR? Do you need additional hardware? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  The head was rebuilt by a local shop with new valves and sprngs. They did not add any washers that I know of - I will check that to be sure.

ok, i replaced the crappy little generator with a 100 amp 1 wire alternator. the guy before me added a aftermarket battery box on the passenger side wheel well under the hood and left the box under the seat abandoned. so, after i added the winch i put the battery back under the seat i grounded to the frame and the other lead (pos) goes to a battery disconnect switch i mounted  right below the drivers seat from the switch i ran a line to the starter you now have 2 (pos) cables to the starter one works full time and one only works when you turn the switch on. as far as charging i used a battery isolator block the charge wire from the alt. goes to the block. the block has 3 terminals 1 for the alt. wire and 1 for each battery they charge independently this way if one battery decides to croak out you still have another to start the vehicle or turn on the second during cold weather starts or when you use the winch or kc lights etc. i also have a 750 watt power inverter under the passenger seat incase i need ac power. hope this helps, mark. ;

On the patrols that I have owned(4), all of them had starters that turned over much slower than what I'd like, but they all somehow started fine. I've replaced cables, batteries ignitions etc. but they still turn over slowly. I did have one rebuilt and the shop modified it so it cranks much faster, but to be honest i dont know exactly what they did to modify it.....
