Somehow because I'm confused.

They are going to install a new one wire alternator (DELCO), and also fix the Mitsubishi one?

I guess there are ways to convert any alternator into a "one wire" type, but it will still require an electronic voltage regulator. If that's the case, it probably is a safer route to go with a Delco one-wire from the start.

The alternator that your Patrol had, is only a 35 Amp alternator, so if you start running extra lights and other stuff, it will rapidly max out and be inadequate. If you run all the standard equipment of the vehicle, it will be more than ok.

They said they would make it internally regulated and one wire

I guess that means they are changing out all the guts and only keeping the housing ??

The alternator in PFP is not a Nissan original btw (hopefully that clears up any confusion)

Ok. Now it's clear. Great, very interesting that they can convert it to a one wire.
Once you receive it, please post some pictures.

Hi all

Just wanted to confirm that the rebuilt alternator did the trick
And it truly is just one single wire... :)

Measured 13.8V at the batt terminal on the alternator at a high idle (choke), and 13.4V at the battery with the engine running

:)

Two pics of the rebuilt mitsu alternator, with the matchbox sized addition to convert it into a 1 wire.
(technically 2 wire, ground and batt positive)

voltage regulator is unplugged but not removed from the truck for now.

PFP runs like a champ

Excellent Eric. Thanks for posting the pictures.

That's a nice rebuilt of that alternator and I'm quite sure you'll get many years of enjoyment. For some reason I was thinking ...how are they going to fit an internal regulator into that one..? But it has nothing to do the one-wire concept with the where the regulator is located.

It is a clever solution. You made the right choice.

By the way, does someone have a good pic of the stock alternator bracket for the original driver side?

I see the one bolt hole in the engine mount / timing case leg, but I'm guessing it requires a bracket between it and the alt?
I tried putting the alt on the stock side using that bolt and it seems too low - alt has very little side to side movement due to hitting the block and the steering column...
(And the v-belt I have is too short for this position too)

Curious ...

Thx
