Black Widow

Post by bosque »

I am in the middle of splitting a couple cords of wood and this was going for my juglar. So after intense thrashing about, which the kids in the neighborhood misinterpreted for fear, I finished wooding....HA! I often spring 4 feet in the air, feet a peddlin' like Fred Flintstone driving. Eddy, What'd ya call it? A Red Headed Girlfriend?

Great. Now I'm going to have nightmares about spiders. I'm arachniphobic - just looking at a picture of a spider sets me off...

Yeah, glad you didn't get bit! :D

So is that the same as our Redbacks ?

If so there considered harmless, get some antivenom youll be right.

Serious glad your alright, now I'm tearing down teh shed, I'm finding a few spiders, just glad I had it pest sprayed on Monday, so if they make a B line for the house, they get a dose and die

wiki:
The female black widow has unusually large venom glands and its bite is particularly harmful to humans; however, Latrodectus bites rarely kill humans if proper medical treatment is provided.

The prevalence of sexual cannibalism in Latrodectus females has inspired the common name "black widow spider". The females frequently eat their male partners after mating. The female's venom is at least three times more potent than that of the males, making a male's self-defense bite ineffective. Research at the University of Hamburg in Germany suggests this ultimate sacrifice strategy has evolved to promote the survival odds of the offspring.[2
Black widows are very serious here and I'd guess there too.....
.......these ain't no fun either (the scorpion that bit my dog)...Image
