I decided that after all the work my son has put into the bumper, it would be a shame not to finish it properly, so I've got it out being Powder Coated. Should be done Wed afternoon. One of his goals was to make it look "period", so I'll be looking for input as to whether we accomplished that or not after I post completed pics.

I've also got the seats out being recovered, and they should be done Wed afternoon also.

Tight schedule because Thursday we're taking it up to the Tacoma area (about 125 miles) for a show - it's special for us because a very old and good friend is very active in putting it on. Working late into the nights getting as much done as I can. Of course, nothing like a little "goal" to help get me motivated.

I call that the "Fever Scedual" ......kinda has a beat to it....almost like you are trying to catch up in a race...I keep scratch paper and pen around because my mind flashes ideas that I want to remember and of course the list of little doohitchys to finish the job!
Oh so fun....and give yourself a pat on the back too for putting your head on the chopping block and committing to the show.
Now stop reading and get to work!

I can't use a paper and pencil because I usually forget where I put them.

So I use a spreadsheet to do list, print it out, and take it to the garage on a clipboard. Kinda hard to lose a clipboard, even for me.

Kind of off topic, but since you're talking to do lists... I thought I'd add in my two cents! I gave up the basic, handwritten to do list and have stopped using Excel for lists -- Instead, I've been using Trello http://www.trello.com for a couple years. It's a free thing, simple and actually pretty dang useful. It's even multi-user so Emily (my lovely wife/business partner) and I can share task lists in real time and even watch it be updated. I have "boards" set up for my work projects, house projects and, of course, the Patrol project.

I started using it with my online start up -- In a nutshell, the Trello back story is that it was created for software development teams where, in an effort to stay organized and work together, the programmers would draw columns on a white board to reflect status and then use sticky notes on a white board and simply move them from column to column to mark progress, status and who's working on whatever. In Trello, you start with a board on which you have lists -- then, you make cards for the tasks and place them on a list. Then you simply pickup and move the card from list to list as the project progresses. They've even provided the ability to have checklists on the card. Here are a couple examples (which also give you some insight to my project):

You can see that I'm using four lists -- More or less they are Future, Soon, Now and Done. You can have as many lists as you want (even as many boards as you want)

It's called Scrum methodology. The sticky notes are 'stories'. I used it with the company that I 'retired' from. Scrum for a Patrol project - who'd a thunk.

Thanks John. I'm going to look at the Trello website as soon as I finish here. I love project/timeline "stuff", which is weird, I know.

RiverPatrol - I had never heard the term Scrum before. There seems to be a lot on the internet about it. Learn something new everyday. I've also used variations of it back in the day - we just didn't have a name for it, other than a "darn impossible schedule"

Back to the important stuff. The car show was good, but not nearly as many cars showed up as was expected (that's always the case). I was the only 4x4 there. It (gosh, I can't just keep calling it, "it". Have to come up for a good name for "it") generated a pretty good stream of interest. Of course, most folks had never seen one. The most often asked question was why it is a Nissan and not a Datsun - a question I didn't have an answer for, probably because it seems irrelevant and it never occurred to me to look into it. One lady in her early 40s I'd say, went absolutely gaga over it. Almost as bad as I was when I first saw it.

I think I need to do a "project book" and "history board" for it if I'm going to do any shows in the future. Alas, another item on the project list. But before that, I've got to pull the transfer case and tranny and get the seals changed - neither of which I'm really looking forward to, but that's only because of the unknowns and "oh, no's" I'm sure to run into.

The white upholstery looks great. That will stay cool in the sun, no burning of thighs when wearing shorts.

I really like how the bumper turned out. The diamond plate looks like it is inviting a winch to sit on it.

I second River's thoughts on both the upholstery and bumper -- They look fantastic! Nice job on the Patrol overall as well. It's really looking great!
