First, your post is very vauge...are you importing to the USA?? If so a 97 Patrol is against the law to import. The vehicle is not street legal and can be siezed by customs at the USA border. If they do that it is your loss, 100% loss on the trucks and shipping fees. There are a few loops holes in the system such as the owner of the truck being in the military but they are not easy to get into the USA and legaly registered + titled. If they were people would be importing newer Patrols all the time. Why do you think there is none in the USA, just use some common sense and you will get the awensers easily. Do a search on goole for the topic and see what you come up with. Email a few of the importers who deal in cars such as MadMax cars or Euro-Truck importers. Ask them and you will see I am not BSing you here. It has been tried before and failed, also succeeded but only through the loop holes in the system. I would be very careful in what you are doing, as you can loose a lot. The genreal rule is a vehicle has to be over 25 years old to be exempt from EPA and DOT regulations. That or it has to have been manufactured for the USA market and sold here. Like I say a newer than 25 year old Patrol can be imported but you best know exactly what you are doing and if doing it for other people you better be on top of things or you just may get sued by them for not delivering the truck. Tom who is in Canda has a different set of rules and I think he can legally import any Patrol. We in the USA are not so lucky.

Canada is different than the USA. I believe all years of Patrols are legal to import there, especially if they sold any of them in Canada. The USA is a whole different story and just to import from Canada requires the same things as from ALL other countries.

I imported a new 1982 Patrol from Saudia Arabia in 1984 through the; port of Houston. I was required to replace anything that was DOT; marked. That turned out to be the tires. The windos and light were; marked DOT. I had to have the jets in the carb. replaced but we got; them in Germany. There was also a series of emmission tests required; and 2 sets of 230 photos of parts of the vehicle that coorisponded to; the DOT and EPA checklists. The cost of the conversion, done by a; conversion company was $6000. Was it worth it? If you are reading this; in the Nissan Patrol Club of Albuquerque then you already know the; answer. I bought this K160 Patrol new for $7000. "I was required to replace anything that was DOT marked." I think you mean NOT DOT marked. While I am glad you imported one a number of things you don't mention should be considered. #1 you did it 20 years ago, laws may have changed a bit, the people governing these rules have more than likely changed. #2 you paid in 1984 near what the truck cost new to import it legally. If the same is true today you will send $20,000-40,000 to make it road legal. Is that worth it when on top of that you have the cost of the Patrol at $25,000-45,000 making the whole thing $45k-$85...well HELL no it is not worth it. For that I can have twenty 25 year old Patrols! While it may not cost that much to import legally today it still will run at least $10k and maybe up to $20k. Then you have a whole bunch of other expensies on top of that. #3 Parts and service as you know are hard to come by for this not sold in USA truck. Sure you can get it serviced but the mechanic more than likely has never seen one. Nissan will be hard tog et parts from as they frown on this kind of thing. FYI, there was a company, maybe still is, in California that was importing newer Patrols. I don't recall their name, not even sure if they are still doing it or in business. But they were bringing in GQ/GU Patrols and price on them was upwards of $50k plus. They were not selling any so I don't think it went over well. #4 you did not mention if you worked for the governement or were in the military. As I have stated this still makes it fairly easy to do today, in comparision. 20 years ago it may have still been legal even if you justed worked for a construction compay or the like. It is not legal in these instances today. Like i say there are loop holes but theuy are not many and hard to get through...the simplest soulution is simply to either mod a new US Nissan such as the X-terra with patrol parts or only import them if they are 25 years or older. #5 If it was easy to do I repeat, why do you think nobody is doing it??? Look around the USA, very few Patrols since 1969 and only a few thousand of those still around. It is not because people do not want them, there are bigger reasons.

It looks very expensive to me - $85 000 ! What would happen if everyone in the United States that wants a new Patrol e-mailed Nissan Motor Company in Japan ? If there were a few thousand of them it may be worth their while to build US legal vehicles. It seems a bit sad that these cars are not available to you guys. We are very fortunate in England to be able to buy a good 90's Patrol for as little as $6000! The trouble is gas costs us around $5.50 a gallon !

; $85 000 for a Patrol seems to be a hell of a lot of ; money. Maybe if all the people in the United States who want a new Patrol ; e-mailed the Nissan Motor company in Japan they might consider building ; a U.S. legal model. It would need to be at least a few thousand ; vehicles to make it worth their while obviously.; We are very fortunate in England in that we can ; easily buy a good 90's Patrol for as little as $6000 !
