Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
Hi,
Need everything for my '67 L60 that is brake related. I am starting with the Master Cylinder which isnt working. I will eventually need the wheel cylinders too.
I am in Ca (92504)
Any bushings, steering joint cover, or rubber will be needed.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
Welcome to 60Patrol. The brake master cylinder rebuild kit RAYBESTOS part # MCK 35203 will work, but the last time i tried to order one it was on back order. I didnt try to cross the # with another manufacture. If you find this kit it will work, but you will have to use your original piston, do not use the one supplied in the kit. Also the wheel cylinders are available on ebay. I got my brake hoses from NAPA, i dont recall the part #s but they matched them up for me, only difference is they were slightly longer.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
Kris,
Your Patrol is a 1965-66 or earlier. The indented door handles is a clue .....a 67 has the outty handles. Look in articles and manuals to see the tiny differences between 65 and 66 then 68 and 69 here in the states.......then there is the oz 70's changes too!
Some specialty shps (http://www.whitepost.com/brake.html , http://www.brakecylinder.com/sleeve1.htm ) may be able to fix master, clutch and brake cylinders or like Ron says to look on ebay.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
AWESOME catch! Thank you! I'd hate to order parts and find they dont fit. Do you know if there is any way to run the body/frame numbers to be certain? I bought this being told it was a '67. The carb has a dated tab that says 10/67 but that could be a later mounted carb, obviously...bosque wrote:Kris,

I cant seem to find the Raybestos part linked to any supplier but have seen all the ebay links. I have also communicated with the restoration companies suggested by other members.

Assuming that the Vehicle's original ID plate is missing (it would be on the engine side of the firewall):

your serial number will also be stamped on the top of the frame rail visible on the passenger side of the engine compartment right behind the engine mount.
It should look like this:

also, post the number stamped on the passsenger side of the engine (should be directly across from the vehicle number stamped on the frame rail)
with these numbers, you should be able to see from the Patrol registry what year your Patrol actually is-
This is how I discovered (With RiverPatrol's help) that my "62" is more likely a 65 with a 68 engine, and that my 66 actually is a 66, but with a 63 engine...

Blue 67 Hardtop (sold March1997)

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
…and I think Kris may find that his Patrol is possible a '64 or '65 with a VIN plate from a '67. I vaguely remember selling someone a VIN plate a few years ago…they needed it to get the vehicle registered.moore_rb wrote:This is how I discovered (With RiverPatrol's help) that my "62" is more likely a 65 with a 68 engine, and that my 66 actually is a 66, but with a 63 engine...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
HA! I believe I am the owner of that VIN plate. The person I bought the Patrol from (Lou) in Upland, Ca, gave me a new plate he bought. It only says 67 on it. Needs to be stamped.RiverPatrol wrote:…and I think Kris may find that his Patrol is possible a '64 or '65 with a VIN plate from a '67. Thanks for the education, I will check this when I get some daylight time away from work. This is getting to be like a treasure hunt. I must be sick, I am having a blast!

River informed us that sierra sleeve was out of biz is correct and the owner was nice enough to write back with a couple more links to existing sources.

David,
Thanks for the kind words, and yes, life is good.
Here is my canned reply concerning other sources:
At this time I am not offering recommendations for other sources of
sleeving services.
I can tell you that the major suppliers are White Post Restorations
(complete sleeve & rebuild) and Apple Hydraulics (sleeving only or
complete sleeve & rebuild) both on the east coast, and Karp's Power
Brake (sleeving only or complete sleeve & rebuild) in Southern
California.
