Restoration 101

All As a relatively new Patrol owner, I am still coming up to speed on how to restore a Patrol. I have a 69 - all stock except for the tranny - which is a 5sp. I was watching the BarrettJackson show over the wkend on a Ford Bronco where in the guys on the show were complaining about the Bronco not having power steering or power disc brakes etc. Can ya'll comment on what ya'll have restored on your Patrols, and what you consider "restore" to mean? I know different people have different views on this and I would like to hear more. Thanks Kartik.

is your "new" Patrol green and from California? If so your 5spd is from Marks 4wd in Aus....they don't make them any more either. If not it is likely still a Mark's 5spd. Congrats either way as these near impossible to get now days and are very bomber. They were made using the Nissan Cabstar 5spd tranny guts with a custom box...extermly tuff tranny. The one I have seen had "Mark's 4wd" on the side of it. Regardless please show us your Patrol with a picture....

Fud Somethings never change, I see that your reputation as an authority on Patrols is true. Yes, it is the Green one from CA. Greg told me that you would an excellant resource on Patrols. Anyways, yes the 5sp is from Marks 4wd in Aus. I'll dig up the paperwork and pass on the details. Sorry to keep ya'll waiting. And yes, I'll post the pix tonight. Cheers

Thanks! The tranny is a very awesome upgrade. You are one lucky guy to own that truck. Very good choice buying it, congrats! It had been offered to me but my pockets and wallet were empty at my shop full. The tranny alone in the truck cost more than most Patrols around. Like I said the tranny is totally bomb proof. I know a guy in Aus who has the same tranny behind a v8 and it is no worries on breakage. The Cabstar truck it was built from is a big forward cab truck, like a 3 tonner. If I recal right that tranny costs about $4k when you could buy it in the USA years ago. It may be the only Patrol in the USA with a Marks 4wd 5spd. Put a lift on the truck and it just about perfect! Keep on P-trolling.....

All Sorry for the delay in responding to all of you. It has taken me longer than I expected to learn how to type with one hand while resting the other in a permanent cast! For those of you out there who do play soccer, please be careful as it is really hard explaining how you break your wrist while playing a sport involving your feet!!! Anyways, the tranny is from Marks ordered through Advance Adapters - part # MFK 092. The gear ratios are 1st 5.03, 2nd 2.82, 3rd 1.65, 4th 1-1 and 5th 0.76 - YES an over-drive on the Patrol. Keith, sorry to disappoint you but I dont have any pix of the tranny going onto the Patrol just the finished product. I have all the notes on the tranny including diagrams and installation procedure from Mark's. I will try scan it and then upload em.
