Looks pretty solid. I agree - for $100 you got a very good deal. :D

yep the black one will be good for some bits so we think it was worth it. What you cant see in the picture is the piles of possum poo Carpentaria palm seeds that was all though the thing. But having cleaned it mostly out there should be some good stuff to use on the red car.

Cheers Mike, following up that lead
So anyway I better give an update on the red beast. We look like we have front brakes now. Because the rear brakes had been removed, well the plumbing at least, we had a little trouble with aeration in the lines. The rear brake line has been crimped over under the floor behind the passenger seat so that only the front brakes are connected to the master cylinder. We had put fluid in the mc (master cylinder) tanks but couldn't bleed out the rear section properly. This was what caused our lack of 'pedal'. After we'd bled out both tanks on the mc and a last bleed at the wheels we have front brakes so that was a win for us and only a few bucks worth of new seals......we did get one around backwards and would have been fired from team Ferrari, but lucky for us here at team g60 we can have beers while we work and the odd stuff up is all par for the course.
We still have no clutch though, just cannot get it to have any feel in the pedal at all. We've rebuilt the mc and there is a new slave cylinder in there that we bought. I think there must be some air still in the system as we just cant find any leaks. We've checked many times from pushrod to pushrod and there's nothing. We swapped master cylinders all with the same result....no pedal feel. We can get something if we pump really fast but I don't like that idea as it just aerates the fluid to much. Anybody got any tips?

Maybe there's still air like you said. Try a reverse bleeding. Buy a big veterinarian type syringe, and force the fluid from the bleeder at the slave cylinder into the master cylinder.

Good luck.

Team Ferrari doesn't know what they're missing. :D

On the clutch the problem sounds like it's the slave cylinder. You say you put a new one on though so that is perplexing. The slave cylinder should have a bleeder on it. For us yanks our pedals are on the left of the vehicle, so it's real easy to loosen the bleeder and push the clutch pedal with the other hand while you watch to see if there are any bubble in the system. You might need a mate to help you with that though.

Have you tried actuating the clutch arm manually? Maybe it's frozen? It takes a lot of pressure to move it manually, but maybe give that a try.

Gday there, thanks for the feedback and this will give us something to try when my partner in crime is back in town. My GF just can't seem to find the time to help me bleed hydraulics? funny that! at least we don't get any grief from all the old cars that seem to be sprouting up around the block like mushrooms.
We have a bit of a laugh when working on the car and we use team Ferrari as the base line for our quality control measures hehehehhehe. "Would team Ferrari care about using a 500ml coke bottle as a fuel tank?" is an example of the typical questions we ask ourselves....."yeah they probably would" is the answer, so then we decide that since we're not team Ferrari the coke bottle will be fine. Works for us! :D

On the slave, yes its a new one......there is no leaking around it......this time. Our original slave was very badly pitted and out team Ferrari QC test failed us and it leaked its guts all over the driveway after we'd replaced the seals. So here is what happens....maybe someone can shed some light on it.

We can build up pressure in the pedal but to do it we need to pump the pedal quite fast. It's not good to do this as we aerate the fluid and if the lid on the res at the master cylinder is not on fliud will spill out.

When we've built up the preasure ( doing this with engine off) we can see the clutch arm moving well, and it appears to move the full stroke. Although if anyone can tell me what the length of the stroke should be or rather how far the end of the clutch arm should move forward from its starting position it would be a help.

But......the thing is.....If we keep doing this without letting the clutch pedal all the way out we can maintain some feel in the pedal and it doesn't loose any, or much maybe 4-5mm at most is lost, of the travel we are getting in the clutch arm.

If we let the clutch pedal all the way out we loose all pressure at the pedal and the clutch arm movement is greatly reduced. The only way to get pressure back is to pump the pedal again.

So far there is no sign of a leak and the level in the tank stays the same over several days of sitting still. I rekon there might be air still in the system even though we've put a full bottle through it, or somehow we are being mislead in the pedal feel because of the good chance that the clutch plate is rusted to the flywheel?

Feedback and discussion is welcomed

Cheers
