Well, it's been over a year since I did it, but I do recall that you must pull the clutch assy first. Then you can access the 4 (?) bolts at each corner. You will have to knock/pry it off of the pins.

I do remember this: you definitely don't want to mount it on the stand with the bellhousing in place. The engine is so heavy it will try to tip the stand forward.

This bloody, bloody, bloody, F%$K&^% is driving me mad. There is so much grease and crud inside the bell housing I dont know what is what. I finally got the clutch out after realising the plate needs to sit flush inside the housing thingo.

I can see two bolts directly above the flywheel but to get a spanner or rachet in there will be hard. Just read the manual and page CL-2 best describe the situation but dosnt really show any bolts other the a something top left of flywheel and left of flywheel.

I got the top right nut off and its a really tight squeeze, The top left I cant even get the socket in, there is no room for a wrench ! Do you need to take the flywheel of first ??? I'm thinking that is the only way ???

Ok this is the top right nut, 3/4", If you place the socket over it, you can then loosen with the socket wrench, not to far as you cant get it out.



THe top left I can't even get the socket on, I'm thinking I need to take the flywheel off ???

You are right the Marks has a smaller shaft then the original box, thanks for pointing that out.

Yes, most likely the flywheel needs to come out next. Either that or my neighbor had some very tricky tools - which is possible. Be careful - it's very heavy. I stuck a breaker bar handle into the center of the works to keep the thing from denting my toes.

Yes, a VERY messy job...

Ta, Just undid the flywheel bolts and now need to get it off. Just came back in to read the manual again. Found the section how to put it on, but nothing on taking it off. Do I need to use some type of puller or can I tap around it and slowly loosen it off ?????

steve the flywheel, needs to visit a machine shop.as soon as it gets out of jail!!!!

Closest I've done was change my clutch in a Series 2 RX7. I swore never to do it again

Well after all that cursing the flywheel and bellhousing is off.

For those people stupid enough to follow, these are the do's & don'ts, and order to remove !!! Please note I may have not followed this process in order (COUGH, COUGH)

Instructions
1- Remove gearbox from bellhousing
2- Remove thro out bearing rod, also has handbrake attached
3- Remove clutch cover from below bell housing
4- Undo clutch bolts (6) attached to flywheel
5- Slide clutch out from below (Make sure the clutch plate is flush with it's housing, otherwise it will jam)
6- Remove flywheel bolts (need 3/4 socket on clutch side and 3/4 spanner behind flywheel)
7- Tap flywheel and then wiggle off
8- Remove 4 x 3/4" nuts in each corner of the bellhousing (behind flywheel)
9- knock bellhousing of pins and bolts.

NOTE- You will need to remove bolts shafts from block to mount on engine stand. off to fastner shop tomorrow to get some 80mm x ?? (take example) bolts

THURSDAY, 24th AUGUST 2006

Well dropped into the fastener shop this morning and bought some UNC bolts for the engine stand.

Got home and quickly bolted it up, there is a bit of sag in the stand and am worried it may be to much weight. The stand is 1000 pounds rating and I'm not to sure what the engine weights. Might make a bracket up to help support it !

Placed the clutch in the garden shed, left the bellhousing outside and gernied the garage. Will need a 2nd wash to completly remove the grease/ dirt balls stuck to the concrete.

Plan to continue cleaning on the weekend so I can play with car parts and not turn black from grease !

Started to paint the engine after degreasing it and having it falls on the ground. Long story no-one was hurt (just my pride) and I think the engine came out unscathed.

Here are some pics. Currently still cleaning the oil filter side !!
