Ok, the early Patrols had a blue engine block and cylinder head and a sky-blue air cleaner housing, right?

and I've also seen green air cleaner boxes on some patrols, and I think I've also seen gray. Were these color variations due to model year or trim level? (hardtop versus softtop or something like that?)

I've seen black cam-covers on the side of the engine, as well as engine color cam covers.

so I was wondering if there is any information that shows what the actual factory engine and air cleaner color schemes were, and how they might have varied from model year to model year?

pre 66 Engine were Sea foam Green. The Whole block was sea foam Green, Both Valve Rocker and Cam Covers were Sea foam Green and the Air filter ousign was also sea foam green.

on my 66 it has a blue block, but the Rocker cover is Green which wasn't exactly Seafoam Green it was a tad darker. It was missing the air filter housing so I wasn't sure what color it was and I just painted it the same green as the valve cover was,although there is high chance it was like that originally anyway.

But all g60 after 67 I have seen were full Blue blocks, valve and Cam Covers. The Air Filter housing was also blue, but it wasn't dark blue it was light blue.

So I know that Originally the Colors Consisted of
- 2 Greens (Seafoam Green and the Darker Rocker cover green)
- 2 Blues (Dark Blue Block, Light blue Air filter housings)

I have seen some very early engines, '62 - 63, that had a red valve cover and a black cam cover. Michael is pretty accurate with his information, which would apply to US Patrols also.

My 65 originally had a black engine, with black valve cover and air filter housing.

Transmission/Transfer case combo was in seafoam green.

This is a formula that I found posted on line at one time for the Datsun blue engine paint.

Using Dupont Acrylic Enamel
Use of a hardener is optional but can be used to
increase the life of the finish.
This was matched from an original smog pump
bracket that was removed and stored. The Dupont
paint store made what I would consider a perfect match.

Mix Size: Quart

758S DRIER 47.8
728A BLUE 182.3
742A BLUE GREEN 348.7
700A WHITE 525.7
705A BLACK 909.6

Note that the BS053A is just a baseline color that is modified
per the #s listed. BS053A is NOT the finished color, but is used
as a starting point.

I am probably going to do a color match on the interior gray and the seafoam green, paints. My paint place uses 3rd Dimension paint so I will post the formulas when I get those.

Sorry I found a dupont dealer and they say the Centari paint is no longer available. Ignore this formula.

Audrey, in June last year I sent a fax with that formula to a Dupont dealer here in Virginia. They said that they could do it, but maybe after 14 months things have changed.

Anyway, I saved also a paint recipe from the following site. I copied also the text:

Several people ask me how to mix paint for the (TURQUOISE) engine paint used an all early Zs and what kind of paint to use. Can you "post" this info somewhere they can find it?. I used this on Serial #2545 (Gold Medallion) and it looked great after 6 years!

Find a Dupont Dealer and ask them to mix up a quart (5 or more engines) [or split it in half for a pint] of Dupont "Chroma 1" paint. Be sure and buy the "Chroma 1" catalyst and reducer also.
