1964 L60 - Need assistance please

Post by screenwriterscott »

Hi everyone! I am super excited that I just got this, but now the work starts.
First of all, the gent that I bought it from made a few alterations:
1. Paint - I do not believe this originally came in camouflage, just a hunch. I "think" that it is the original color in one of the engine pics I attached (cream or maybe off-white).
2. Side vents - they're gone. Ugh! Where can I possible find these?
3. Back door - the two 'swing out' doors were welded into one piece that now drops down - UGH! Want original. Where to find parts?
4. Interior - Is there a resource for what this particular model looked like when it rolled off the assembly line? Want to return it to stock condition.
5. Spare tire assembly was moved from the back door to the side - UGH! Want to return to stock.
6. Front bumper is not stock, want to restore to original.
7. Needs tail lights (backups) for it to be legal, how the heck do you find those?

Cool truck, I am so excited to take it over the weekend for a shakedown to see how it runs.

Thanks in advance for expertise and advice.

Welcome to 60Patrol! :text-welcomeconfetti: Congratulations on your new project. :D Looks like you've got an interesting one.

Ok, quite a few questions, I'll try to hit as many as I can.

1. No, they never came in came. The color in the engine compartment might be the original but it's hard to tell from the picture.
2. Side vents - you're probably going to need complete fenders. Chances are good that once you get that riveted panel off the sheet metal is rotted and there's not place to mount the vents. You'll know for sure once you get in an look.
3. Back door - and side spare tire mount: there is a slight chance that it was originally that way. There were a very few early Patrols that had a drop down tail gate and a side mount spare tire carrier. I can't tel from your pictures whether those are the original ones. Try to get some better pictures so I can tell. If they are, it is incredibly rare. I have only ever seen one other Patrol with that option.
4. The interior looks pretty stock. You'll find tons of resources here for what they looked like, here's one link: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1704
5. See #3
6. Start looking, one might turn up. Have patience though, rare Patrol parts don't come quickly.
7. Patrols didn't have backup lights until 1969. Usually states don't require them if they didn't come with them originally.

Here's a pic of the only other one I've seen that had the side mount spare and tail gate:
