Re: Rear axle bearing
I think I may have figured it out. The axles are held in preload by each other they butt up against each other in the middle of the diff. I found that the passenger-side nut is backed off and that one is working it's way out. Which caused the preload to come off of the left side and cause my grindin...

Rear axle bearing
My problem is what holds the preload on the rear axle bearing. I've pressed the Bearing off and it looks fine. I've also reassembled it and torqued the nut and it still is loose. What keeps the bearing tight? What exactly is the order of assembly? There's a small shim tapered on the inside that I be...

Re: Head gasket
Yea I've been looking on there and they're all in AU and its around $50 for shipping plus the $55-60 for the kit. All I need is the head gasket. I will go the eBay route if I have to. I just rather give my money to someone on the forum.

Head gasket
Hello all! Long time no talk! Just been super busy with work, patrol resto, plowing, etc. I am in need of a head gasket for my patrol that had a heart attack last fall. I broke a lifter and then just last week I found a patrol in the local junk yard and stole the cam and lifters out of. I want to ge...

Re: Ol Green Had a heart attack last night
My worry is that this engine is just tired and if I go throwing a gasket kit, refreshed head, and a cam that something else will break. This truck was not very well taken care of and I think shes beginning to show her age and unmaintained wear. The other patrol does't seem near as beat. I think I'm ...

Re: Ol Green Had a heart attack last night
Well I pulled her apart last week and did't find anything wrong until just now. When I had gotten the head off I noticed and the valves were closed. I began looking at the valve heights and discovered that someone long ago did a "valve job" and had all the valve heights all over the board....

Ol Green Had a heart attack last night
Last night on my way home about 3 minutes from home Ol green started make a sharp slapping/buzzing noise along with a popping. My fist thought was I had a tire coming apart. So I went to pull off the road and push the clutch in and the noise lessened.... Hmm tires don't quit blowing when you push th...

Re: USA Patrol Registry
Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever found there original engine in someone else's patrol through the registry? I was reading through it and just had a thought sense neither or mind have there original hearts. Not that I'm looking for my numbers matching engine I just thought it would be cool if s...
