Komatsu Forklift P40 Engine Parts Catalog

Service Manuals, Owner's Manuals, Parts Manuals, etc

Postby azsteve » Wed May 08, 2013 7:28 pm

Printed 1991. Document # is PGCP400-03. Text searchable, image quality is pretty good.

I got official confirmation from the manager of Komatsu America's document department that this is the final catalog for their P40 forklifts. Why did I bother to buy, scan and upload this? Lol, I'm not sure yet. I suppose I was thinking it might be possible to use the part numbers to seek out engine rebuild stuff that would work on the Patrol. While most who do an engine rebuild source the kit from motorpower which is a mix of P40 and PPU parts... they aren't the only game in town for forklift parts, especially if we have the official part numbers, not their internal part numbers. I am not suggesting that they are overpriced, really I have no idea how their prices compare because I haven't ever seen another rebuild kit for sale. I just like to have as many options as possible.

I did also confirm from the Komatsu guy that they DO have parts available that are referenced in this catalog... he/we didn't get into specifics of which parts except to say that there weren't many available... he was willing to check part numbers for me but suggested if it was more than a handful that any search would need to be done via a regional Komatsu parts guy.

I don't know if this will help anyone in obtaining parts... time will tell.

Anyway,

Enjoy!

Of course this will help bigtime. The cross referencing alone is worthy. This is exactly where we will find something new...well old...that we still need

Steve,

Thanks a lot for all your efforts, including time and money that you've been putting into this.   :bow-yellow: :bow-yellow: :text-thankyouyellow:

Check your uploaded catalog. Maybe something went wrong since I'm only getting some pages with content. Could be on my end too. Downloaded 2 times and the same result.

No problem Esteban... The forklift catalogs all together were really really cheap, compared to the Patrol stuff. Lol, one of them was 9$, free shipping. Another the guy wanted 45 and I offered 10, settled at 20. So, not a big investment dollar wise.

I double checked the file I uploaded... no problems that I can see. Umm, tech stuff isn't my forte... I know sometimes when I use my smarterthanmephone to download pdfs they are just too big a chunk of memory for the phone to open up more than a page at a time... so it appears blank when its actually not. I have no idea if that is what's going on... anyone else having problems with the file?

Thanks Zed! I have to admit I haven't yet been to a forklift yard, lol, but if there's one in AZ I'll probably find myself there sooner or later....

azsteve,
My Datsun 520 has the J Series motor, also used in the Datsun forklift CF series. I have a list of salvage yards that keep the rusting forklift hulks out in the elements, just rotting away. There are a number of independent forklift repair shops that can provide P40 internals. Unfortunately, some of the parts are cheap imports...nothing you would want to install.
Also, comparable parts (for example pushrods) are less expensive via a Nissan auto dealership vs a Nissan forklift dealership. What we do all know is that it is difficult to obtain any Patrol parts via a Nissan auto dealership.

I see fig. 9 & 13 shows the manifold and it looks like it fits a different carb base....that can change things.

Here are some of the differences that I recall between the P40 and P engine on our Patrols (I used to have a MQ or 160 model with the P40)

- Manifolds. Totally redesigned. Intake is aluminum
- Carburetor (that explains the different carb base)
- Timing gear, with sprockets and chain in P40
- Cam followers
- Front main bearing (crankshaft is the same)
- Oil filter and base
- Flywheel and housing
- Engine mounts (due to different timing housing)

The head is the same, so a swap of the complete manifolds is a straightforward matter. Even the gasket between head and manifold is the same.

I was going nuts this morning, as I downloaded at the office, and the same issue. Turned out the problem is on my side :angry-banghead: , since I've been using Foxit Reader as my default pdf viewer. Opened with Adobe Reader, and everything is perfect.

Just a quick glance the manifolds looked the same but you know the deal here already, thankfully. :!:  (edit: I checked and the mount to the motor is the same....it is the intake shape and # of mounting holes that is different.)
Does this mean you could swap out the top half and then run this Manifold set up?
