The two lines are for ventilating any condensation or crankcase vapors inside the distributor.
A non-waterproof dizzy has adequate venting under its non-sealed cap.
The two lines originally attached to two fittings on the air filter located in areas of slightly differing air pressure, thus causing a slight flow of air through the distributor.

Thank you to Rob and everyone else who has contributed to this thread. I'm looking forward to making this conversion soon.

Rob, it seems that a few of the images are now broken in the OP. Any chance you can update them for us?

Thanks again!

Hey guys, love this thread and am ready to get rid of my points and go to a pertronix system as well. I have the waterproof distributor so I ordered the specific kit for it. In this thread You're installing it in a new distributor which isn't mounted yet. Is there any reason that I couldn't do the swap without removing the distributor from the motor? Trying to make it as simple as possible without removing parts that might not go back together too easily or mess with my timing too much. ( Though I figure I'll have to adjust timing afterwards anyway) any insight? Big giant thank you for making this thread!

Good question! No need to remove the distributor, you can do the installation in place.

I just ordered a PerTronix 1762 Ignitor for my 1969 with a distributor stamped "D610-58". Appears it is a Hitachi 3HIT6U1. This thread was for a Nissan distributor, but some other post have noted that this kit should work for all normal (non-waterproof) distributors. Can anyone confirm that?

The water protect distributor was on 99% of US/North American Patrols. The correct Pertronix kit for that distributor is the 1763 kit.

If he has the non-waterproof distributor (the cap attaches with clamps, not screws) the Pertronix 1762 will work.

Thanks to both of you. Mine is the two clip type so it looks like I got the correct Pertronix.

I have a couple questions about the 1761 vs the 1762 Pertronix, it was mentioned that the hole had to be modified on the 1762 does the 1761 work better? Also I see that the distributor used is the C7000 but looking at the parts catalogs the non water protect distributor is a Hitachi D608-51 with part number 22100-58100 and the last superseded number I see is 22100-C0601. There was some mention about the timing lock not being in the right spot. Is the 22100-C0601 an more direct fit with the lock being in the correct area?

UPDATE.. Looks like the 22100-C0601 distributor is a little harder to find and when found it is quite a bit more. I am seeing prices of $175-250. The 22100-C7000 is a little over $100 from Helmar... that makes the decision a little easier.
