Won't stay running
I was going to take the Aussie pickup in to town so I went to warm it up. It started up ok with the choke, so I walked away to go get something. I got as far as the tailgate and the engine died. I thought, hmmm, and went to restart it. Again, it started up fine, but a couple of seconds later it dies again. This continued to happen, so I took another vehicle.
I spent some time today trying to diagnose the problem. It's not electrical, it's still got power to the coil when it dies. I watched the carb, and the spray of fuel in the throat stops right before it dies. The fuel filter is fine. I replaced the fuel pump and it still dies.
This is a Stromberg carb. Is there possibly a problem with the carb? It ran great the last time I drove it. There is a little bit of gas seepage coming from under the float chamber.
Help?

Re: Won't stay running
I think you have a sticky float, can you tap on the float bowl without damaging the carb? I would try that first. Then maybe disconnect the fuel line from the carb and spray carb cleaner into the connector to carb.
also double check and make sure none of the rubber fuel line is cracked, or coming apart internally.
If that doesn't work i think it wants to live in NORTHERN ARIZONA!!!!

Thanks, I'll check that. I can tap on the float bowl without damaging anything.
Northern AZ, huh. It might make it as far as Williams some day if I take it to the Datsun meet there.

Thats weird, i just remembered. I used to work for my grandmother in Valley (junction of 180 and 64) at her trading post during the summer. We used to drive her Patrol (the one i own now) to Williams to go grocery shopping.

Re: Won't stay running
agree with Ron- sound like either a float issue, or the needle is stuck in the seat in the carb.
Good luck - I hope you get it figured out
