emergency brake assistance

Won't run? Engine, cooling system, fuel pump, carb, clutch, tranny, brakes, etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Engine & Mechanical' category are here.

I took some pictures and also scanned a nice diagram from the Service Manual.
I measured the length of the rod, and between pivot points is 19-3/4" (500 mm). So this length includes the connecting part. Please note that minor variations of this length is possible due to the adjusting process.

You can see in this picture the oily mess that I was talking. Took the propeller shaft out for clarity...

I just measured 24 inches as noted. 19.75 inches looks like it will line up perfectly. Leslie what r ur thoughts? Could my rod be for a different vehicle?

Here is a picture of the 69 that I am working on right now that shows the emergency brake and linkage in correct configuration.
----Note that the lever is removed from the left side of the bell housing for removal of the firewall assembly---

Nothing like jumping into a 2013 post, but here goes…

Just now trying to figure out the e brake on my ‘69 L60. I think all my parts are there just cannot confirm where the correct adjustment point is.

Thanks
Dave

I disconnect the rod at the brake end then adjust according to the manual procedure. Then I check to make sure it has a bit of bounce in the band by pushing on the top, bottom and anchor side. if it has a bit of spring back after you push on it, you know it's not dragging.

Next I attach rod and try the handle pull-up. 2/3 or 3/4 travel on the quadrant (thing with serrations on it) is good. You can change rod length at clevis to achieve this. Too little pull-up and the leverage is lacking, too long and you may run out of travel before pull-up in an emergency.
