Battery Size?

Flames? Lights wiring, alternator/generator, etc.

Hello all!

Long time lurker that just got the 69 patrol listed in Fort Collins, CO!

The patrol has been running great, but did find the battery is a bit low voltage, and now won't start. For peace of mind I just want to replace it and start fresh with my new machine.

I tried searching the forums but was unable to get a clear answer as to what battery would be a good replacement. I also searched the manual but unfortunately the battery spec page seems to be scanned in fuzzy (every few pages is fuzzy), so that didn't help either.

Thanks in advance :)

Mine is a 65 with a slightly different battery compartment. I measure my battery a few days ago:

10.25” L x 6.5” W x 8” H
This corresponds to BCI Group Size 34.

Thank you!

Follow up question, what CCA is recommended?

The BCI Group 34 range between 750-900 CCA. They provide 20 hours of 50-75 Ah.

The Service Manual for the Patrol mentions 60 Ah for the battery. No further spec.

Mine has been in service for 16 years. I never had any problems during winter time (Virginia) after 3 weeks of not being used.

It all depends on what your plans are. Maybe you can put a longer battery there. These engines start very quickly if the carburetor is in good shape and not dry for seating too long, so battery is seldom an issue. However if you plan to add an electric winch, a secondary battery will be prudent.

Let us know the length of the space in yours. Maybe all this can serve to settle the battery requirements for good.

Hi
@Brand138 which battery did you end up buying to fix the issue. I am also facing same issue on 1969 patrol I bought about 2 months ago. it would only start if I jump it from other car.

Sorry for the delay,

I went with the Interstate 8850241, worked perfect for me!
Plus they have it at Costco who has awsome customer service for batteries.

That’s the same battery I installed on mine. The following is from the battery decal:
Group Size: 34
CCA: 800
CA: 1000
RC: 110
Item #: 8850241
