Flat leaf springs?????

Bottoms out? Shimmies? Shackles, springs, shocks, steering linkage etc. The old messages from the NPCA 'Suspension' category are here.

The front leaf springs are very flat indeed. According to the service manual, camber when loaded is approx. 2" (53 mm). If you could draw a straight line between the eyes of the leaf spring and measure to the top of the spring (the part that contacts the axle) the measurement should be 2".

Another way to check if your leaf springs have sagged, is to measure from the top of the rubber bumper that is on the axle at each side to the chassis where they rub against when bottomed. On a sketch in an early shop manual, the distance should be approx. 1-13/16" (46 mm). By the way, is the first time that I pay attention to this measurement in the manual. Mine are sagged definitely.
