That’s one of the Roy Rogers ads. Cool find.

What a stroke of luck....

A neighbor of mine who is moving put a non-running Honda rebel in her driveway with a free sign on it..... Complete except for ignition key (which is an easy fix). Even came with a title! Got to push it home on Monday..... Yet another project.....

But got it running on compression start now after a good carb clean.... So happy

Looks good next to the patrol

Did a valve adjustment today to see if i could get rid of what sounds like valve chatter at higher rpms (loud ticking).... I don't think i've got an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold so thought i'd check valve clearances again.... They weren't too far off, but i did notice something that i'd like some feedback on, so here it is, because it may mess with the clearances:

When adjusting valve clearance (after following correct procedure and setting to 0.016), I noticed that there's up and down play in the rocker arm and pushrods. Meaning, i can push down on the side of the rocker arm where it connects to the pushrod and i've got a little bit of movement down. Is there a spec in the manual for this? or is it normal? Anyone with experience on that? The pushrods seem to be functioning as they should otherwise...and there doesn't seem to be play in the rocker arm assembly where it pivots. I'd be interested to hear thoughts.... maybe a video would help, will see about posting Sunday afternoon.

when you press the rocker arm side down like you described, does it increase the valve lash beyond .016?

i'm out at the moment but will reexamine this when i get home. i want to say yes it does, thus throwing the valve lash gap out of spec.....but i'll check and make sure....

Here's a small mod to the patrol for all I daredevils that like to drive with the windshield down when it's extra warm. Up here in the Pacific NW we'll get some good 80-90* days where it's perfect for full ventilation mode. But with windshield down I only have drivers rearview mirror. A little grinding of the tab on the rearview, and a little grinding on the bottom of the mounting bracket will let it flip all the way down to give u some more rear visibility without always doing the 180 head swing....doesn't seem to compromise the structure either. Maybe someone's done this already, but I think it's cool and a bit useful.
