1973 Photoshoot DAVID JONES PHOTOS OUT

My 73 Showcar is booked in next week for a photo shoot at studios in town. Don’t know who for as yet, but will be there watching/ driver as well.
Question (RiverP ?) They are saying they would like the roof off, but would also like me to take it along as well.
I’m thinking of pre-undoing most bolts at home and even removing some (like leave one in, when there are three). This should make the frame easier enough to remove, just leaving the bitch part of removing the canvas.
Any tips to make this as easy as possible when I'm at the studio’s ?

With the canvas, on my 66 i fitted the canvas the other week, its a bit tricky trying to fit it one person i noticed

If you removed the side pieces, maybe they may not want you to remove the whole roof

Regarding disassembling the canvas top, you probably will need the help of another person, in order not to rush taking the canvas out of the guide channels that are over the doors, since you have to slide the two sides almost at once, or do it in small increments switching from one side to the other. Also sliding out of the windshield channel is tricky at the beginning, but then will move fast. Taking the top canvas out, specially if you untie in advance the straps from the side panels to the top, will probably take you 20 minutes.

The guys that are doing the photoshoot will probably want the windshield down for really nice photos. Here's were the fun begins due to time constraints. You will probably need some 30 additional minutes to take all the pipes, bows, and the cantrails and pillars. Please take a look at the diagram below, since you have to remove the following:

Caution: are the winshield hinges ok? I've broken one in the past since the pin was rusted inside.

- Cantrails (29) (30) over the doors. Make sure the bolts that attach them to the windshield are not rusted, so you won't end up braking them.
- Pillars (6) (7) on the back of the doors. In addition to the obvious bolts at sight, there's a big nut underneath (39) that goes along with bolt (8)

What an exciting opportunity for you and your Patrol! Congratulations.

The best suggestion I can offer is: the more people, the better. There will certainly be set crew guys there to help you take the top off. Obviously the canvas needs to come off first. After that, you might be able to remove the entire soft top frame complete by detaching it at the rear of the tub, the door pillars to the tub and at the windshield. Theoretically, the whole frame could lift off, with the help of other people. I've never had enough people around to attempt this myself, but I've thought about it.

As for tools, all the bolt/nuts are the same size on the frame. Mine are 7/16, I don't know what the metric equivalent to that is. All I ever need is 2 wrenches that size, or a wrench and a ratchet. Double check your bolt sizes and just take the few tools you need.

Also talk about a matching theme TV commercial with the car as well. All happens next Monday 26th May.
