Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
Here is a side by side of the original parts, and the Car Quest kit. Note the difference in the length of the new piston. This is why you need to reuse the original piston. Everything else in the kit will work. antiquecycles, does the kit from NAPA look like these new parts? If so it will work. The original piston needs to be cleaned thourghly and the 6 small holes in the end must be cleaned out. A precision drill bit works great for this. Carefully take a small precision screwdriver and roll the new cup off the new piston, due the same with the old piston. Then carefully roll the new cup onto the old piston.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
Now that deserves a big THANK YOU!
thank you for taking all that time to explain and post pics!
I thought the bushing was built "into" the piston. I haven't even seen the NAPA (UP387) kit since I haven't been able to get out that way. Once my wheel cylinders arrive from Australia I will pick it up and try to rebuild the master cylinder.
I truly appreciate this response,
Kris

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
Ok, I called O'Reilly and had them send a kit to my local store. I got it the same day. I removed the old plunger from my piston. To do it, I had to tear it off. It looks like the plunger is sandwiched in between the end of the piston.2869ral wrote:Here is a confirmed OReilly auto parts MCK33252 brake master rebuild kit $15.99, and these are readily available. I removed the new plunger from the new piston. I put it on my old piston but it doesn't have a "seat" like the new piston does so I am thinking it isn't going to work. It looks like it will just slide off (?)
I'd send pics but I lost my camera! Doooh!

Re: Brake Master Cylinder or rebuild kit
My question to you is;
Is there a groove for the plunger to seat into on your old piston? Does it look like the new piston's groove?
My piston doesn't have a groove. It looks like the plunger was incorporated into the piston. (It is a Tokico.)

Mine is also a Tokico. This isn't the original piston, but the groove looks just like this one.antiquecyles wrote:My question to you is;
